I was invited to a "highly non-traditional" seder last night, which is a special dinner eaten at the beginning of Passover. The only tradition we really adhered to was the four glasses of wine, which we all did our best to fulfill. By the time I finished my second glass we were out of white wine, so I had to start drinking red. At the time of my fourth glass, I had to do my best with what was left and ended up drinking half a glass of red and half a glass of port (seperately).
We argued about definitions of words like odium, winsum, and strawberry friends, compared injuries and resulting physical therapy exercises (having never broken anything bigger than a toe, I was unable to contribute very much), and remenisced about the good old days of last year.
Lots of dishes were brought, and those of us who didn't bring anything did our best to contribute to the cooking effort. The kitchen was a little to small for everything, so we had to cook some of it in someone else's place down the street. There was matzo ball soup, a slab of grilled salmon, and a rack of lamb. Afterward, we realized no one had brought desert and were forced to drunkenly improvise one made from strawberries and chocolate chips. Things start getting blurry after that, and I vaguely remember waking up at various times during the night on a couch, an easy chair, and a bed. I also suspect I may have broken the toilet, but since I'm going back tonight I'll find out for sure and try to help fix it if I can.
Today I got to work fifteen minutes late and mildly hung over, but everything worked out well.

Drifting back to normal
Okay, I forgot. I'm not too good at keeping resolutions. But I still got to do some winding down.
With Tron: Legacy coming out soon, I got the urge to see the original again, so we rented it last night and worked on finishing off the last of the Jameson's Whiskey I had left over from St Patrick's. It's probably been at least a decade since I saw it, so I didn't hold out much hope of it being as good as I remembered. And yeah, it was all kinds of campy, even through the whiskey haze.
Still though, for something that was made back when most computers weren't much more than blocky green letters on black background, it was a crazy visualization of what computers might look like "from the other side of the screen."

I've got a bed at home... there's other things too, but I haven't been paying attention lately.
Wake up and go to work, go home and go to sleep, wake up and go to work again... Blegh. I think my brain is starting to congeal. I'll hit the 70hr mark for the week today.
In general I think being passive-agressive sucks, and I have a dim view of using your blog to indirectly gripe about people. So I'm making a conscious effort at the moment not to rant about the people I'm severely irritated with right now. Instead, I'll approach the situation more unilaterally and say that right now I hate everybody! Sorry to lash out at the whole world like that, but it's been a rough week. Incredibly, I've got the evening off so it's entirely probable that opinion will change soon. Alcohol might be involved in some way.
Man, I feel kind of guilty for singling out the human race and venting my frustrations on it. To make up for it, I resolve to post again tonight after some of the tension's been lifted. If there are no posts, then either my soul was finally crushed or I forgot.

A random thing to know
Guys shirts button left over right. Girls shirts button right over left.
This comes from back when women who owned clothes that buttoned up usually had someone else who did the buttoning for them. To keep the servant from getting confused ('cause buttons can be tricky, apparently), the buttons were reversed.

If only I didn't need things like food and shelter.
It's my day off! What better way to spend it than at work? The boss wrecked his knee last night playing hockey, so guess who got called in to open up the theater.
I suppose that since I was going to be working my other job at the bookstore today it wouldn't have been much of a day off anyway, but it still sucked to have to call in sick again. Especially since I prefer the smell of old paper to old popcorn. Maybe if I can drive fast enough from here once my shift's over, I'll still be able to help them close. Then I can work both jobs on my day off! I probably just would have wasted it doing laundry or eating or something anyway.
Last week, I found myself taking a late lunch break at the bookstore so that I could come start my shift at the theater, then take an early dinner break and finish my shift at the bookstore (there was no actual lunch or dinner eaten). It's at times like those, and this one, that I wonder if it's really worth it. Then the end of the week comes and with the last of my strength I open my paycheck and realize,
No, it's not.
